We are very happy to welcome Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira as main partner of Imagine Silicon Valley 2016 and Andrea Ortega Villalobos as the Cuatrecasas representative Dreamer. Making the world a better place together!
Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira is a leading law firm in Spain and Portugal. The firm represents some of the largest companies in both countries and advises foreign investors interested in the Iberian market on all areas of business law. The firm was granted the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers 2015 award.
Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira is the first law firm that participates in this disruptive innovation program. Innovation is key to improve the management of its resources and to develop new products and services in order to provide clients with efficient and flexible advisory services.
Andrea Ortega Villalobos was born in a little village on the northern coast of Spain, Laredo (Cantabria). She studied primary, middle and high school at St. George’s English School Bilbao and her undergraduate studies in Law and Business Management at Deusto University. During her university studies, she participated in several programs and events related to innovation and entrepreneurship and discovered her passion. She loves to meet people with her same enthusiasm to explore and develop new projects. In addition, she did several internships in law firms, worked as a volunteer and collaborated as editor in Qué Aprendemos Hoy, the leading crowdlearning community in Spain. During her final year at university, she was granted a scholarship to attend a master`s program at UIBE University in Beijing.
Subsequently, she started her Masters of Laws at Esade in Barcelona and her Masters of International Business Law at the Center for Transnational Legal Studies, a program of Georgetown University, in London. During her studies in London, she researched about the evolution of the legal industry in the United Kingdom and, in February 2015, she started her own blog regarding innovation in the legal industry at a global level, Global Legal Challenges. In addition, she co-founded Nuevos Juristas, a platform that connects law students and lawyers interested in the intersection between law, technology and innovation.
She joined the London office of Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira in January 2015 and incorporated in the Program for International Advocacy (Programa Pro Abogacía Internacional, PPAI) of the firm. The PPAI is unique in the Spanish legal sector, offering lawyers more opportunities for training and work experience. It has three stages: (i) rotation through the firm’s different practice areas and offices, (ii) a master’s degree at an international university, and (iii) secondments in leading law firms. After completing these three stages, lawyers return to Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira with new experiences and language skills.
Andrea Ortega Villalobos started a rotation in the insolvency & litigation department of the Barcelona office in November 2015 and presented a project to the firm to participate in Imagine Silicon Valley 2016, which was considered a perfect complement to other innovative projects developed by Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira in the framework of its strategic plan.
Recently, the firm has launched, with the support of Telefónica Open Future_, Cuatrecasas ACELERA, an acceleration program to drive entrepreneurial talent and support business initiatives that respond to the challenges and trends of today’s society in the field of legaltech.
